Suboxone Treatment
Are you ready to quit? Opioid dependence is a challenging disease that often requires medication assisted therapy. One of the benefits of Suboxone is that the patient receives treatment right in our office by a trained addiction treatment physician registered with the Department of Health and Human Services and certified by the DEA.
What is an opioid? Opioids are addictive narcotics in the same family as opium and heroin. This includes prescription pain medications such as Codeine, Vicodin, Demerol, Dilaudid, Morphine, Oxycontin, Percodan, Methadone, and Suboxone.
Why are opioids used to treat addiction? Isn’t this substituting one addiction for another? Suboxone blocks the opiate sites in the body and prevents any response to opiates taken. Even though maintenance treatment works very well, it is not a cure by itself. It is our goal to encourage the patient to learn to live independent of Suboxone. This takes patience, counseling, and time.
